What are Bovada’s horse betting rules?
The following rules apply when wagering on horse races:
1. You cannot cancel, change or modify your bet once it has been received and accepted by Bovada Racebook. You are solely responsible for your account transactions, so it is important that you carefully review all wagering details for any mistakes, errors or omissions before clicking ‘Place Bet’.
2. You will not be offered compensation for any wagers that are not accepted by Bovada Racebook, no matter the reason. Conversely, wagers are considered valid when they are accepted, even if you aren't assigned a reference number. If you have any doubts about your wager’s validity, you should check your Bovada Racebook transaction statement and/or contact Customer Service immediately. You can access your cash statement by clicking the Transactions link available on your Dashboard.
3. Consistent with industry standards, Bovada does not recognize suspended races, protests or overturned decisions for wagering purposes.
4. You are able to place a bet right up until a race’s official post time. Bets placed after the official post time will be considered void and your money will be refunded.
5. If you place a bet and its value exceeds our posted limit, the wager will have action up to the limit, while the rest of the wager won't have action.
6. All bets are placed on the saddlecloth (gate) or program number, not on the horse's name. In the event that there is a mismatch between the horse's name and its’ saddlecloth number, only the number will have action.
7. If a wager type (e.g., a trifecta) is offered by Bovada Racebook but not at the host track, all affected wagers will be graded "No Action".
8. All wagering disputes will be settled by Bovada Racebook using industry standards as guidelines.
9. Bovada Racebook’s management reserves the right to refuse or limit any bets placed, and to restrict wagering on any event at any time, without advance notice.
10. If we believe that there has been "pool manipulation" to gain monies from Bovada Racebook, we will investigate the race and betting patterns, which may result in any winnings being considered as void. We also reserve the right to restrict or limit wagering access in Bovada Racebook.
11. All horse racing futures and proposition bets offered in Bovada Sportsbook and Bovada Racebook on events such as the Triple Crown, Breeders' Cup and other future races include races posted from North America (excluding Canada), Europe and worldwide. All of these races have fixed odds, and scratched picks will not be refunded (as per our futures and props rules). If available, these wagering options are listed when you select ‘Horse Racing Futures’ from the left navigation panel on the main Sportsbook page, and if the 'Futures' link is available from the left navigation panel on the main Horses page.
12. For head-to-head matchups between horses, both contenders must start for your bet to have action. Additionally, the horse you choose doesn't have to win the race; it must simply finish ahead of the other horse in the matchup.
13. When you place a bet on a horse that is coupled, your bet includes all horses running under that number (e.g., 1 and 1A or 2 and 2A).
14. The bets you place at Bovada Racebook do not contribute toward the track's parimutuel betting pool. This means that if the track payout on a race pays to all (when nobody who bet into the pool has a winning ticket), you will receive one consolation payout per winning combination, even if you have the exact winning combination. For example, suppose you place the following pick 3 wager: 3 / 4 / 4. If the ensuing result is 3 / 4 / 4 and nobody who bet into the pool placed that exact wager, bets on each of the following combinations will receive a consolation payout: 3 / 4 / <any horse>, 3 / <any horse> / 4, or <any horse> / 4 / 4.
15. The maximum amount you can win on all of the bets you place on a given race is determined by the payout limit for the track. See the Track List and Payout Limits page for more information. If your winning ticket(s) awards you the maximum payout amount for a race, the stake amount for each winning ticket is added on to the maximum payout amount. For example, if you place two $50 bets and each pay out $3,000 for a Category D track, the maximum payout would be limited to $5,000 plus the two $50 bet amounts. Your total payout would come to $5,100.
16. All daily double, pick 3 and pick 4 payouts count toward the last race in the wager when the maximum amount paid out per race is calculated. For example, suppose you placed a daily double on the first and second races at Santa Anita Park, which has a per race payout limit of $30,000, and you won $15,000. As a result, you can't win more than $15,000 on the remainder of your bets on the second race.
